In some cases, it can be helpful to add a hotkey to switch to another computer, some examples include:
- You don't want to access the computer often
- Long route from one computer to another (depending on setup and layout)
- Have a non-symmetrical layout and links between them feel unnatural
- Prefer switching using keyboard or mouse buttons
Steps for both products are outlined below:

- Open Synergy
- Go to Keyboard & Mouse
- Press the arrow next to "Hotkey configuration"
- Press the "Create hotkey" button
- A pop up will appear. Click on “Record keystroke”
- Press a key or key combo (e.g. Ctrl+Shift+F2) to choose a key binding
- Click the button "Create Action"
- Option 1 - Under action type, select "Switch to computer", then select which computer
- Option 2 - Under action type, select "Switch in direction", then select a direction (left, right, down, up)
- Press Save

Synergy 1
- Go to the server computer.
- Click the Configure button.
- Go to the Hotkeys tab.
- Click the New button next to the Hotkeys column.
- A pop up will appear. Click on “keystroke()”.
- Press a key or key combo (e.g. Ctrl+Shift+F2) to choose a key binding and click OK.
- Select “keystroke(Ctrl+Shift+F2)” from the Hotkeys column, then click the other New button (the one next to the Actions column). You should see a dialog that says “Configure Action” at the top.
- Option 1 - Select "Switch to screen", and then select which computer to switch to,
- Option 2 - Select "Switch in direction", and then select a direction (left, right, down, up)
- Click OK on the hotkey “Configure action” dialog window, then click OK on the Server Configuration dialog window.
- Click the Apply button on the main window to apply the new configuration.
