Product: Synergy (all versions)
Operating system: Windows, macOS, and Linux
You might want to swap your modifier keys, based on what seems more convenient or comfortable to you.
For example, when sharing a Windows keyboard with a Mac, using the hotkey for copy ie. Command+C can be tricky because the Windows key is in a different place than the Command key on a Mac.
Follow the steps below to swap your modifier keys:
Synergy 3
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click on the context menu for the secondary computer (the 3 dot menu) and click Computer preference

2. Click the Modifier keys tab

3. Then swap "Super" with "Ctrl" and "Ctrl" with "Super", and press "Save"
Synergy 1
- Open Synergy on your server computer.
- Click "Configure"
- You should now see all the machines that are configured on your network.
- Double click on the machine whose keys you would like to edit (e.g. the Mac).
- You will see a Screen Settings window.
- On the right side you will see a vertical list of all the modifier keys.
- You change the keys based on what you want which key to do (for example swap "Super" with "Ctrl" and "Ctrl" with "Super")
- Click OK to close the Screen Settings window.
- Then click OK again to close the Server Configuration window.
- Click Apply to save your new configuration.
If the changes don't work as expected
Please note that making changes on the secondary/client computer changes the keys for that computer only. Opening the same window for the computer that is set to the primary/server computer will not swap the keys unless the primary/server computer becomes a secondary/client computer.
Once you have made the changes it can be helpful to open up the on-screen keyboard to see how the changes you have made are reflected on the client. On Windows, it's called the OnScreen Keyboard, and on macOS, it's called the Accessibility Keyboard.
