Are Synergy 1 and Synergy 3 cross-compatible?
Unfortunately, Synergy 1 and Synergy 3 are not cross-compatible at the moment, you need to choose one version to use across all computers.
The reason why these versions are not compatible is due to the auto-discovery and configuration feature in Synergy 3, which does not exist in Synergy 1. We plan to add a feature to allow Synergy 1 and Synergy 3 compatibility at a later date.
Can I copy and paste files between computers?
At the moment Synergy only supports the copy and paste of text and images stored on the clipboard between computers and not files (experimental feature).
An example of an image that can be stored on the clipboard is copying an image that is displayed on a website/document or a screenshot.
Do I need a Synergy license for each computer in my setup?
Each computer that shares its keyboard requires a license. However, you can swap which computer acts as the keyboard-sharing device. With a standard Synergy license, you can connect up to three computers at a time, while Synergy Ultimate allows up to fifteen. There's no need to purchase a separate license for each computer.
If you need a separate setup with a different group of computers sharing a keyboard, an additional license serial key is required.
Can I use Synergy with Android and iOS/iPadOS devices?
We’d love to add support for these devices and plan to do so in the future. While we can't provide a timeline yet, it’s definitely on our development roadmap.
Here is a list of operating systems that we currently support: Operating system and hardware requirements
Can I use Synergy to duplicate mouse/keyboard input between my computers?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to duplicate mouse movements/clicks or key presses with Synergy across several computers (at the same time).
The way Synergy is designed, mouse and keyboard inputs can only be active on one computer at a time, therefore it is not possible to have the keyboard and mouse send duplicate inputs to more than one computer simultaneously.
Can I share the keyboard from one computer and the mouse from a different computer?
Unfortunately, it's not possible to have split peripherals with Synergy at the moment i.e. the ability to only share the keyboard from one computer and the mouse from another or have both keyboard and mouse work simultaneously from both computers, but we do have this down as a feature request and may be implemented in a future update.
Can I use Synergy with multiple computers connected to one monitor?
It is possible to use Synergy with computers connected to a single monitor, but you will need to switch the monitor input manually when switching the mouse cursor/keyboard between the computers with Synergy.
Synergy will share your mouse and keyboard but does not support monitor input switching at this time. Therefore, when using Synergy with one monitor we recommend creating Hotkeys (Synergy Ultimate feature) so that you can switch the mouse cursor/keyboard using a key press combination which will be easier than transitioning the mouse cursor off the edge of the screen. This is because it can be tricky to keep track of the mouse cursor when you are only using one monitor and can't see the mouse cursor on the other computer until you change the monitor's input.
