What You Need Before Installation
- An active Synergy 3 license
- The Synergy 3 installation file from the download page
- At least two computers
- Administrator privileges on all computers to install and add firewall exceptions
- Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection (computers must be on the same network)
Step 1 - Download the Latest Version
Get the latest version of Synergy 3 from the download page.
There are two different installer files available for macOS, one for Apple Silicon (M-Series) and another for Intel.
To check what kind of processor your Mac has:
- Click the Apple logo in the menu bar (top left)
- Click About This Mac
- Note what it says after Chip or Processor
If it says M and a number, i.e M1/M2 please use the Apple Silicon (M-Series) installer file
If it says "Intel", please use the Intel installer file
Save the installer DMG file to a convenient location on your computer.
Step 2 - Run the Installer
Double-click the downloaded DMG file in your Downloads folder (or wherever you downloaded it to) and drag and drop Synergy to the Applications folder.
After dragging the Synergy to the Applications folder you will see the Accessibility Access prompt appear as seen below. Please click on Open System Settings where you will then need to allow Synergy:
Please press the toggle to allow Synergy:
Please then enter your Mac user's password to be able to enable this setting:
Step 3 - Activate Synergy
After installation, open Synergy and click on 'Continue with Synergy':Step 4 - Name Your Computer
Once logged in, enter a name for your computer. Use only alphanumeric characters, hyphens, or underscores (e.g. Mac-One).
After clicking next, follow the instructions on screen to configure Synergy 3
Step 5 - Repeat on Other Computers
Repeat steps 2 to 5 on all computers that will be part of your Synergy setup.
Step 6 - Set up and configure Synergy
Once Synergy is installed, you can connect your computers and share your peripherals.
